The immigration landscape is undergoing significant changes, with adjustments not only in salary and income thresholds but also in application fees. In this article, we’ll outline the key fee increases slated for 2024.

Further fee adjustments are scheduled throughout 2024 under the Immigration, Nationality, and Passport (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 2024. These adjustments aim to enhance the self-funding nature of the migration and borders system.

Key Changes in 2024

04 April 2024

  • Introduction of Immigration Salary List (ISL): The Shortage Occupation List has been replaced by the ISL, abolishing the 20% salary reduction for shortage occupations. The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) will review salaries in line with increased thresholds.

10 April 2024

  • Permission to Stay Applications: Fee changes include an increase for Skilled Worker and Global Business Mobility applications. Fee waivers will be granted for certain Hong Kong British National (Overseas) applicants.
  • British Citizenship Ceremony Fee Increase: The fee for attending British Citizenship ceremonies rises from £80 to £130.
  • Visit Visa Fee Increase: Application fees for two-year visit visas increases from £400 to £432.

11 April 2024

  • Passport Application Fee Increase: Standard passport application fees for adults will increase to £88.50, and for children to £57.50. Postal applications will also incur higher fees.

24 July 2024

  • Permission to Stay Fee Increase: Applications, including those under Appendix FM, will see a 20% increase to £1,258. Transitional provisions will be available for specific cohorts.

These adjustments are intended to align with the costs of processing and delivering immigration, nationality, and passport services.

Previous Fee Adjustments

On October 4, 2023, the majority of UK immigration and nationality application fees were raised. Additionally, the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) saw a substantial 66% increase, effective February 6, 2024. This brought the IHS fee to £1035 annually for adults and £776 for children, students, and certain visa holders.
