On July 13, 2023, the UK Government made an announcement regarding the forthcoming increase in the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) by 66%.
The standard rate for the immigration health surcharge is set to increase from £624 to £1,035 per year. This adjustment will be applicable to individuals entering the country for a duration of six months or more, including both workers and family members of migrants and British citizens.
The reduced rate for students, children, and youth mobility visa holders will also be raised from £470 to £776 per year. The immigration minister, who announced this measure, explicitly mentioned that this surge in fees would specifically contribute to funding the previously announced pay rise for doctors.
In addition to the immigration health surcharge, there will be an increase in immigration and nationality fees across various categories. Work and visit visas will experience a 15% rise, while student visas, certificates of sponsorship, settlement, citizenship, entry clearance, and leave to remain applications will undergo an increase of at least 20%. As of the present moment, the Government has not provided an official statement regarding the precise date for the implementation of the notable cost increases in UK visa applications.
Please note that applicant’s under the following categories do not need to pay the IHS fee:
- Visitor visa
- Fiance visa
- Health and Care Worker visa (or dependants)
- Indefinite Leave to Remain
- British Citizenship
